Kwasi ADU-AMANKWAH :

Am sure you are aware and seriously as concerned as we are that our brothers, sisters and governments in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia are battling the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) - The pandemic is sweeping ferociously and wreaking havoc across these countries and has caused an unprecedented public health crisis in Africa. As of 22 October 2014, a total of 9,964 suspected cases and 4,881 deaths have been reported. We are therefore appealing to you, your organisation and community to join us in our effort to mobilize moral and financial donations to our brothers and sisters in these affected communities. ITUC Annual Survey 2010

09/06/2011

Africa

In Africa, the implementation of labour laws - when in place- and respect for trade union rights, remain problematic. Numerous violations were again recorded in 2010. In addition to the structural issues, unions in the region often have to grapple with anti-union actions both from private employers and governments. Lawful strikes are difficult to call in many countries, and strike repression is rife and often leads to violence.
