18th meeting of the General Council of ITUC-Africa

The 18th meeting of the ITUC-Africa General Council was held on 17 and 18 October 2018 in Lomé at ITUC-Africa headquarters (Fopadesc).

During two days, trade union leaders and members of the General Council of ITUC-Africa, representatives of sub-regional organizations, representatives of the ITUC-Africa Regional Women and Youth Committee and representatives of International Workers’ Federations (BWI, Education International) and elected African members of the ITUC General Council discussed important issues relating to the functioning of the regional organisation.

These include, but are not limited to, activity and financial reports, audit reports and the 2018-2019 plan of activities submitted by the ITUC-Africa General Secretariat for adoption.

The discussions on the progress report presented by the Secretary General Comrade Kwasi Adu-Amankwah focused on the activities carried out during the past year in accordance with the strategic plan of ITUC-Africa.

This year’s General Council meeting was marked by the presence of Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of ITUC.

The dates of 20 and 21 November 2019 have been selected for the next congress of the ITUC-Africa.

The General Council is the highest authority of the Regional Organization between Congresses. In accordance with the statutes in force, "he is responsible for directing the activities of the Regional Organization and implementing the decisions and resolutions of the Congress".
