Dear Brothers,
On behalf of its 103 affiliates in 51 African countries, the African Regional Organisation of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-Africa) would like to express its deepest sympathy to the entire population of Ghana particularly the victims of the recent tragedy in Accra.
Indeed, it was with a great emotion and sadness that we learned of the flooding and the deadly fire at the Goil filling station at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra that killed nearly 150 people and injured several others.
In this sorrowful moment and being very much aware of the impact that these human and material damages will have caused to the economy of Ghana and more particularly on the situation of the Ghanaian workers, we wish to extend our heartfelt condolences and those of all African workers to you and to all the Ghanaians.
We share the grief of the affected families and join the people of Ghana, harshly affected by this tragedy, in prayer and meditation.
We rely on the courage and solidarity of Ghanaian workers and also on your efforts so that this difficult ordeal is overcome.
Yours fraternally,
Kwasi Adu-Amankwah
General Secretary
