The African Regional Organisation of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-Africa) held a crucial meeting with its African affiliates on the sidelines of the 111th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva on Thursday 8 June. The meeting focused on two key issues: The participation of African trade union representatives at the Conference and preparations for the 5th Ordinary Congress of ITUC-Africa to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, next November.

The participation of African trade union representatives in the International Labour Conference was at the centre of discussions. ITUC-Africa stressed the importance of strengthening the voice of African workers and ensuring their active participation in the deliberations and decisions of this leading global event. General and technical information was also provided to participants.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss preparations for the next ITUC-Africa Congress, which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, in November under the theme "Amka Africa"! This Congress, which will bring together trade union representatives from affiliates, regional workers’ federations and partner organisations, will be an important platform for discussing the major issues facing workers on the continent.
The meeting provided an opportunity to update members on the status of preparations for the Congress, including registration, the composition of delegations and the status of organisations with regard to payment of affiliation fees.

The ITUC-Africa Congress will be an opportunity for African workers to come together, share experiences and formulate common strategies to defend their rights and improve their working conditions.
